In a recent meeting at De Colours Foundation Head Office Dawhenya on the 21st November 2023, with the Head of Private Sector Engagement for UNHCR, the dynamic Miss Melody Bossman, De Colours Foundation gained profound insights and made critical decisions to address pressing humanitarian issues. Here are the captivating highlights and action points from this transformative session:
Reflecting on the Forum at Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel:
Apostle Okocha set the tone by reflecting on a recent forum held at the prestigious Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel. This gathering served as a catalyst for discussions that would ultimately shape the foundation’s commitment to humanitarian causes.
Humanitarian Challenges in the Northern Region:
Miss Melody shed light on the current situation in the Northern Region, revealing that approximately 6000 refugees from Burkina Faso have settled there. These predominantly farming communities have received plots of land to cultivate through the joint efforts of the Ghanaian government and UNHCR. The influx has strained local schools and hospitals, with pregnant women among those requiring urgent medical attention.
De Colours Foundation’s Pledge to Act:
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, De Colours Foundation pledged immediate support to address the refugee crisis in the Northern part of Ghana. Rooted in their belief that “Service to God is Service to Humanity,” the foundation considers this a humanitarian emergency. The potential strain on medical facilities and social amenities in the region necessitates swift and comprehensive intervention.
Solidarity in Action:
The foundation’s commitment includes providing essential items such as desks, medical supplies, educational materials, and other support to enhance the quality of life for the refugees and the local community. This collaborative effort aligns with the UNHCR’s ongoing initiatives to develop existing infrastructure and ensure the well-being of those affected.
In the wake of the Sahara region grappling with similar challenges, De Colours Foundation’s proactive stance exemplifies a dedication to humanitarian causes that transcends borders. This meeting not only unveiled the realities of the current refugee crisis but also ignited a beacon of hope through collective action.
The journey to alleviate the challenges faced by the Northern Region has just begun, and De Colours Foundation stands resolute in its commitment to making a meaningful impact. As they say, “In service to humanity, we find our purpose.”
